On a Windows Server 2003-based server that has Microsoft SQL Server 2005 installed, consider the following scenarios:

  • You are running a DBCC command on a large database. For example, you are running the DBCC CHECKDB statement on the database. At the same time, you run many DML statements on the database.
  • You create a database snapshot for a large database. At the same time, you are running many DML statements on the database.

In these scenarios, the SQL Server service stops responding. The DBCC CHECK statement is never completed, and you receive the following error message repeatedly:

The operating system returned error 1450(Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.) to SQL Server during a write at offset 0x0000159d8ae000 in file with handle 0x0000000000000AAC. This is usually a temporary condition and the SQL Server will keep retrying the operation. If the condition persists then immediate action must be taken to correct it.
